Where Will You Be When the Floodwaters Rise? -- The British and Irish Experience
Britain makes for yet another complicated picture. Obviously, if the deepest shade of green on these maps represents a 164 foot elevation and thus the main areas of flooding (if Antarctica melts down completely), then much of the country is just beyond the water's reach. Unfortunately for those living in London, this map may provide a bit of false security -- you're not that far beyond its reach if the waters go all the way to 200 feet, and storm surges are apt to push their way up the Thames in any event. Leaving you with quite a bit of water in your capital, especially the further east and/or riverside you go.
Meanwhile, Ireland and the highlands of Scotland don't look too bad off, until you realize that if Greenland has a sudden glacier slide off, they'll be shielding the west coast of Europe from much of the resulting tsunami. Rest assured, this won't be as much fun as the last potato famine. Except that it might, theoretically, be quicker.
