Japan is in the peculiar position of being a nation of islands yet having quite a bit of relatively high ground. Still, loss of cities, agricultural land and favorable climate isn't exactly a great coup for her people. And a likely breakdown in the world economy is not good news for a country which imports so much of its natural resources and ties so much of its economy to foreign trade.
